About Us

The Hamilton & District Badminton Association (H&DBA) is an independent Badminton Association (not a badminton club) – run by volunteers. These volunteers are from several badminton groups from our area.

The H&DBA is very unique for a number of reasons, including:
~ A community group that welcomes all levels of badminton players
~ There are no membership fees or dues to be a member of the H&DBA.
~ Organizes two community oriented tournaments that is run on a not-for-profit basis.
~ Via our website (www.hdbadminton.org) which provides information about local badminton organizations and other badminton related info.

The Hamilton & District Badminton Association encompasses the City of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (including Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek, Waterdown/Flamborough); Halton Region (Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Acton, Georgetown, etc.); Town of Grimsby (as well as Beamsville and Vineland); Brant County (Brantford, Paris, etc.); Norfolk & Haldimand (Simcoe, Hagersville, Waterford, Caledonia, Ohsweken, etc.) Counties.

For the Hamilton & District area, our Championships (H&DBC) represent a historic badminton tradition for a variety of reasons including:
- Since 1930, thousands of people (youth, adults and seniors) have played in our Championships
- The H&DBC is the second oldest badminton Championships in the Province of Ontario
- All skill levels, beginners to tournament level players, are welcomed
-  High School students can either participate representing themselves or part of their school team. The H&DBA awards the High School Participation Trophy for the school that collects the most points.
- The H&DBC is a four level event.

Some Other Great Reasons to Play at the Hamilton & District Badminton Championships

At the Draw Meeting, our objective is to place everyone in the draw so that you (by the third match) end up in a division that best reflects your skill level. That extra work on our part, greatly increases the chance for everyone to be competitive.

For the top players in our area, it provides the opportunity to show your great skills at ‘home’ and be recognized with your names on our historic trophies. (Note that our trophies are on display in a permanent trophy case at McMaster University – Sports Hall for public viewing.)

You will be part of our area’s rich badminton history;
Meet fellow players, socialize and develop friendships (or rivalries):
~ and maybe walking away with some bragging rights

For the Young-At-Heart

The Hamilton & District Master Badminton Championships (35+) has grown to the extent that we needed to make a separate date and venue from the main Championships. This tournament is definitely friendly and far less matches. Further details can be found on the website.
